Feeling Stuck? You’re Not Alone (Here’s How to Get Unstuck)
I'm in the middle of a new project and it feels hard and messy. What you’re reading here is part of that new project. I don’t consistently write, blog, and put myself out there publicly. If I had to describe how I feel in one word it would be- STUCK.
I find myself scrolling websites and blogs of the people I admire in hopes of finding just the right words, the perfect sentence structure, and a pile of inspiration.
The raw, honest truth is I question whether I’m cut out for this. I feel unqualified.
I conceal myself by continually seeking more knowledge, waiting for the ideal moment, and uncertain of my next move. I often hear myself saying, “No, not yet.”
Maybe you’re in chiropractic school feeling stuck in your post graduation plans. Maybe you’re new in practice trying to figure out how to generate more patients. Maybe you’ve built a successful practice but are unsure how to recruit and retain an associate. Or maybe you’re approaching the end of your career trying to figure out your transition plan.
If two decades in the chiropractic space has taught me anything, it’s that results do not come from more knowledge, confidence, and time. Results come from taking action.
When I’m feeling stuck and unsure of my next move, I follow this four-step framework:
Uncover the Obstacle: Identify what you’ve been putting off. (Maybe you’ve put off shadowing clinics in the community you hope to one day practice, engaging in your community to generate new patients, writing your help wanted ad to recruit an associate, or meeting with a business transition consultant to define your exit strategy.)
Action Steps: Write down 4 action steps towards accomplishing your goal.
Schedule for Success: Block one step per week in your calendar for the next 4 weeks.
Weekly Review: Reflect on your progress: How far did you get? What worked? What didn’t? Why? What will you continue or change?
As I ask myself these questions I, in turn, ask you the same: Are you not taking action because it feels heavy, hard, or you’re not sure of your next step or whether it will even be worth it? By saying “No, not yet” you’re saying you accept minimizing your opportunity. Are you comfortable with that?
As I prepare to hit publish on this post feeling uncomfortable and full of self-doubt, I remind myself, and you, all that truly matters is that you keep moving forwarding and take actions towards your goals.
If you’re reading this post, it’s because today was the day I stopped saying, “No, net yet” and instead decided to say “yes” to taking action.
If you’ve decided to do the same, I’d love to hear about it. Email me at info@robyntozer.com and let me know what action you’ve taken.
Here’s to getting unstuck together,
Robyn
